Meadow Hill School 8th Graders Dish Up Some “Pi”!
Pizza “Pi”, anyone? On Friday, March 14, 8th grade students celebrated National Pi Day at Meadow Hill School by combining math and pizza in a fun and delicious way. In this hands-on project, 8th-grade students made pizzas, measured the diameter and circumference of their pizzas, and then used these measurements to calculate Pi (π)—the mathematical constant that helps us understand circles. This event was carried out by the 8th grade math team in collaboration with Home & Careers teacher Chef James Wenzel. A special demonstration was also given by Mr. Doddo, one of the building’s lead security officers who is also a skilled pizza maker, having made pizzas all his life. To wrap up the events of the day, students also participated in a contest to see who could remember the most digits in the famous number Pi. The 1st place winner was Paige Duchnycz, who memorized and recited the first 114 digits. The second-place winner was Mikaela Villatuya, who memorized and recited 110 digits.
