Heritage Middle School Proudly Presents Rodgers & Hammerstein鈥檚 Cinderella: Youth Edition
Heritage Middle School proudly presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella: Youth Edition on Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th beginning at 6pm (doors open at 5:30). This timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance.
Making this a whole-school, student-led musical is important to director Becky Clina. “The more students are involved in the process- whether it be designing, building and painting sets and backdrops to designing and sewing costumes or making props- the more this really becomes a school-wide production. Some students don’t realize there are so many more aspects of theatre beyond acting and singing on a stage! I want kids to know they can become sound engineers, lighting designers, costumers, choreographers, set builders… the list goes on and on!”
A variety of teachers and classes across the school assist in collaborating throughout this process, including Ms. Toback’s science students who build and paint all the large set pieces, Ms. McCarthy’s art students who paint the backdrops, Ms. Demetrus’ textiles classes who sew costume pieces and create food themed props, Mr. Kormmanhaus’ technology classes who build the large structural pieces, and Mr. Durante who works with the students in setting up and running the soundboard for the show. Many other teachers also donate their time to help with various projects, chaperoning backstage during the shows and of course, coming to watch and support the students!
Cinderella: Youth Edition promises to be a delight for the whole family. There will even be photo opportunities for you (or your own little Cinderella) with your favorite cast members after each show!
